The name “Ujjayanta” was given by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, a close associate of the Tripura royal family.
It was designed by Sir Alexander Martin and constructed by Martin and Co., a Kolkata-based firm.

Since 2013, the palace has been converted into the Tripura State Museum, showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage.

Ujjayanta Palace is a major attraction for tourists and history enthusiasts visiting Agartala.
