Built during British colonial rule and designed by Robert Tor Russell, it was completed in 1933 and is named after the Duke of Connaught. The area is renowned for its unique Georgian-style architecture, featuring a circular layout with radial roads leading outward, which makes it one of the most distinctive parts of the city.
CP consists of two concentric circles: the inner circle, often called Rajiv Chowk, and the outer circle, known as Indira Chowk. The area is filled with a mix of high-end retail stores, restaurants, cafés, theaters, and offices, making it a lively destination for both shopping and dining. The nearby Palika Bazaar (an underground market) and Janpath Market are popular for bargain shopping.
Connaught Place is also close to major landmarks like India Gate, Jantar Mantar, and Parliament House, making it a central spot for tourists. Its central location, colonial architecture, and vibrant atmosphere contribute to its status as one of Delhi’s most well-known and frequented areas.
